Job Description

We are looking to hire a Senior Design Manager to support the delivery of a new 7-year framework where the AECOM multidisciplinary team will plan, design, and deliver water and/or wastewater treatment projects for a major utilities client in Southern England. Key responsibilities of the role include, managing multi-disciplinary design activities to deliver proposals on time and on budget, ensuring compliance with regulations and client requirements.

Core Responsibilities:

Design Leadership:

  • Leading and managing teams of engineers and designers in the development of wastewater infrastructure projects, including treatment plants, pumping stations, and sewer networks.

Design Management:

  • Overseeing all aspects of the design process, from concept to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Client and Stakeholder Management:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with the client, contractor, and other stakeholders, and effectively communicating project progress and technical challenges.

Resource Management:

  • Ensuring that the design team have the necessary resources including the technical expertise in wastewater treatment processes, hydraulic modeling, and related engineering disciplines.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensuring that designs are developed to comply with relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations/requirements, including but not limited to CDM (Construction Design & Management) regulations.

Innovation and Improvement:

  • Driving the adoption of innovative technologies and best practices in wastewater design and continuously improving design processes.

Financial Management:

  • Managing project budgets, tracking costs, and ensuring value for money in design solutions.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Typically a degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, or environmental engineering, with chartered status preferred.
  • Experience: 5 - 10 years experience in water and/or wastewater treatment facility design and design/project management
  • Understanding of the design process of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic engineering and modelling
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirement
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Project and design programming skills.
  • Experience in development and implementation of design management tools and procedures.
  • Commercial awareness of projects.
  • Construction knowledge/experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Project/Excel/InDesign.
  • Travel between office and site locations is required, particularly Croydon, London and Brighton areas
