Job summary

MWH Treatment is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead and shape design delivery for major water and wastewater projects, ensuring safe, buildable and compliant outcomes.

Based in the Northern Region with flexible working, you will guide multidisciplinary teams, drive collaboration with clients and suppliers, and maintain regulatory and safety standards throughout the design lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Multidisciplinary design-management experience.
• Engineering degree and Chartered Engineer status.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety, CDM, design assurance.
• Water/wastewater sector experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design delivery across projects from scope definition through handover.
• Ensure designs meet health and safety, quality, technical, environmental, sustainability and governance requirements.
• Collaborate with designers, technical specialists, suppliers, construction teams and clients to deliver outcomes.
• Manage design plans, deliverables, risks, decisions, change control and monthly reporting.

We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Senior Design Manager, based at a suitable location within our Northern Region with flexible working available.Are you an experienced Senior Design Manager ready to drive the successful delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects? At MWH Treatment, our design leaders play a critical role in shaping innovative, sustainable solutions that help deliver safer, smarter, and more resilient water services for our customers and communities.We are looking for a Senior Design Manager to provide leadership across the design lifecycle, ensuring high-quality, technically robust, and buildable solutions are developed and delivered. Working across a portfolio of major projects, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, influence project outcomes, and drive collaboration to ensure designs meet client requirements, programme objectives, and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Leading engineering and design delivery across a portfolio of projects, from scope definition through to handover.
• Making sure designs meet health and safety, quality, technical, environmental, sustainability and governance requirements.
• Working closely with designers, technical specialists, suppliers, construction teams and clients to deliver successful project outcomes.
• Managing design plans, deliverables, risks, decisions, change control and monthly reporting.
• Supporting a culture of open communication, constructive challenge, shared learning and continuous improvement.

Essential

• Extensive multidisciplinary design-management experience, ideally in a design-build environment.
• An engineering degree and Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent professional standing.
• Strong knowledge of construction health and safety, CDM, design assurance and large-scale project delivery.
• Experience in the water or wastewater sector would be highly beneficial.
• A collaborative, solution-focused approach and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
