Job summary

Egis, a joint venture with VVB Engineering, seeks a Senior Design Manager to join the Anthro JV MEPHFC Design Team for London’s HS2 gateway station at Old Oak Common. Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing Design Management team across MEPHFC disciplines
• Manage Design Managers and production resources to meet contract requirements
• Control project programmes and challenge delays with mitigation plans
• Ensure governance in line with NR-L2-RSE-02009 and Engineering Management standards
• Produce and review design deliverables with clear, risk-free outputs
• Coordinate 3D design in BIM along with design documentation and RFIs/ TQs

Education

The Anthro joint venture between Egis and VVB Engineering will provide comprehensive turn-key services for London’s state-of-the-art HS2 gateway station at Old Oak Common. We have been awarded a multi-year contract to deliver MEPHFC (Mechanical, Electrical Public Health, Fire and Communications) systems works.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated Senior Design Manager to join the Anthro JV MEPHFC Design Team. The candidate will have experience in rail station building services design and coordination.

You will be a senior member of the team and responsible for managing the design production team, multi-disciplinary across MEPHFC. You will work with the Senior Project Manager, Design Lead/CEM, and Assurance Manager as part of our management structure. You will lead and manage a team of Design Managers to deliver the RIBA 4iii) MEPHFC design.

You will manage resources, act as an escalation for blockers, communicate progress/issues to the client, and be the central point to internal and external weekly and monthly reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing a clear vision and team direction by leading a high-performing team through the effective management, development and empowerment of staff
• Responsible for managing a team of Design Managers and production resources
• Manage internal and external resources to produce outputs/deliverables in line with contract requirements and client expectations, with direct line management of Design Managers
• Accountable for compliance with the Technical Assurance processes, in line with project and client requirements, and rail industry norms and best practice
• Retain full control of project programmes, interrogate supply chain programmes and challenge slippage. Work collaboratively to develop and implement mitigation measures
• Manage CEM and CREs to ensure governance in compliance with NR-L2-RSE-02009 (Engineering Management for Projects)
• Set and maintain high standards in the production of design deliverables, ensuring information is clear and concise, and risk free. Nurturing a get it right first-time culture within the team
• Proactively review design documentation to ensure construction risks are mitigated at the design stage
• Manage the engineering team for production of design drawings, calculations, reports, and supporting documentation in accordance with British Standards & Eurocodes, across projects ranging from GRIP 1 to GRIP 5 / RIBA 2 to 5 / ES1-3
• Accountable for the production and coordination of design information in a 3D environment to BIM Standards
• Accountable for CDM and CSM-REA requirements and processes, ensuring risks are mitigated As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)
• Collate and review design trackers for senior reporting
• Review and ensure that meeting minutes recording key discussions and agreements
• Accountable for the production, issue and closure of RFIs and TQs
• Liaise with Project Managers and Commercial Managers to produce and issue project communications e.g. EWNs and GCs
• Coordinate and manage engineering activities so they result in affordable solutions and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality
• Manage the production and issue of progress reports and dashboards
• Accountable for the consistency of the deliverables across your projects
• Accountable for implementing processes and systems as described in the Anthro Design Management Plan (DMP)
• Review, evaluate and implement rail industry standards to ensure compliance of the engineering deliverables to the standards
• Promote sustainable design and development
• Promotion and implementation of digital solutions and innovation across Egis projects
• Share knowledge, lessons learned, and innovation across Egis Group technical communities and projects

This role may also include working on projects internationally for EGIS UK Transport or other EGIS subsidiaries.

Qualifications

Essential

• BSc or similar in Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific, Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.
• Chartered Engineer/Technician membership or equivalent professional status from a recognised institution
• Extensive experience in Engineering / Technical functions, with experience as a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) / Engineering Manager (CEM) in major infrastructure/transportation projects
• Ability to communicate effectively to deliver on time to programme
• Project and team-running experience in UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation
• Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
• Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Experience of working in an engineering production environment
• Good knowledge of UK design standards, such as Network Rail, HS2 and TfL
• Excellent management skills with the ability to support, mentor and animate a team of engineers and technicians
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR)
• Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
• Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
• General knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental Regulations, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and NR/L2/OHS/0047

Desirable

• Excellent knowledge of railway infrastructure, systems, and operating requirements
• Understanding of interdisciplinary within rail environment
• Experience of working in design and build projects
• A clear understanding of a multi-disciplinary design approach and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stage gates
• Experience of working with offshore global design production centres.
• An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works, including low carbon design
• Excellent understanding of all relevant BIM standards, design integration procedures and relevant legislation
• Knowledge of quality assurance
