Job summary

Wates Group, through its Wates Construction – Construction West division, seeks a Senior Design Manager for the HMP Hindley project in Wigan. Lead the design strategy on a landmark custodial redevelopment, coordinating disciplines and stakeholders to ensure delivery on time and to budget.

This on-site leadership role requires strong collaboration, a hands-on approach to design process, and a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the lifecycle.

• Proven experience as a Senior Design Manager on large-scale construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design function on site—bringing together teams, disciplines, and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
• Lead and manage the design process across all key stages of delivery.

• Ensure design solutions are practical, compliant, and aligned to programme.
• Drive innovation, risk management, and continuous improvement.
