Iron Mountain Data Centers (IMDC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Design Manager or Design Manager to join our EMEA Design and Construction team. In this role, you will lead the delivery of world-class data center design projects, ranging from new builds and customer fit-outs to phased expansions and operational upgrades. You will collaborate with external consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions that meet Iron Mountain’s rigorous standards. If you are an experienced design professional with a strong technical background and leadership capabilities, we want to hear from you.

Your role in our mission

  • Lead the design process for data center projects by managing third-party consultants and ensuring alignment with Iron Mountain’s standards.

  • Collaborate with internal teams including construction, finance, sales, and operations to validate project scope, budgets, and timelines.

  • Engage with external stakeholders such as developers, consultants, equipment manufacturers, and construction managers to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Support due diligence efforts by assisting in the evaluation of potential data center acquisitions and assessing their feasibility in collaboration with external consultants.

  • Provide oversight and reporting on key design and engineering elements, including budget, schedule, and infrastructure activities, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.

  • Support the sales engineering team by assessing design options to help drive business opportunities and customer solutions.

  • Support procurement of long lead, owner-furnished equipment for data center projects.

  • Promote inclusion and diversity within the Design and Construction team.

  • Provide professional assistance as requested in support of global projects.

Valued skills and experience

  • University Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Experience in mission-critical design and/or similar hi-tech, M&E-led industries (e.g., Nuclear, Pharmaceutical, Laboratory, Food & Drink manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Energy, etc.).

  • Strong leadership experience working within multi-disciplinary design teams, preferably in a leading role.

  • Versatile background in design consultancy, client engineering, site engineering, or contractor engineering roles.

  • In-depth knowledge of complex electrical, mechanical, life safety, and control systems associated with critical facilities or data centers.

  • Expertise in national and local building codes to ensure compliance and best practices.

  • Excellent communication skills with strong written, presentation, and customer relationship abilities.

  • Ability to build and manage relationships with key suppliers, business partners, and internal stakeholders.
