Job Description:

SENIOR DESIGN MANAGER - NEWBURY (TIER 1 OPPORTUNITY!)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Manager to join our prestigious tier 1 client working on a number of high profile and technically complex projects across multiple sectors.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Project Director, you will provide functional leadership of design management resources on a major project or a smaller cluster of projects within a region or product stream from pre-qualification to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review current project designs and undertake detailed risk and opportunity assessments to mitigate risks, enhance buildability, and add value prior to construction.
  • Collaborate with the project team, Lead Designer, and Consultant Team to produce and manage a realistic design programme and information schedule to meet design, procurement, and construction requirements.
  • Work closely with Commercial and Operations Teams to ensure all design deliverables are coordinated, buildable, and within budget. Contribute to technical workshops and value management exercises to align expectations.
  • Manage the production of contractor proposals, ensuring they are complete, reviewed, and include all post-tender negotiations.
  • Oversee on-site design management with site-based resources, implementing the design management procedures.
  • Ensure the project team adheres to contractors’ proposals.
  • Maintain close relationships with clients and design organizations.

Requirements:

  • MCIOB membership
  • Chartered Architect or Engineer
  • Advanced design skills
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, construction materials, methods, and technologies
  • Expertise in planning techniques, procurement, and management systems
  • Knowledge of risk management, lifecycle costing, and value creation
  • Understanding of Fire Safety Improvement systems
  • Knowledge of temporary works
