Randstad CPE is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead design coordination from pre-construction through site delivery on major 50m+ schemes in the Midlands. You will drive buildability, value, and ensure fully coordinated design solutions across Education, Custodial, Defence and Blue Light sectors.

You will manage the design program and IDP, work with commercial, operational and client teams, and oversee external consultants with a focus on digital design workshops and value engineering.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Design Manager in a Tier 1 environment.
• Extensive pre-construction and site delivery on schemes 50m+.
• Strong multidisciplinary design coordination and digital literacy.
• Confident communicator; manage consultant appointments and teams.

About this Role

This Senior Design Manager position offers a major pre-construction and operational design leadership opportunity to join a premier Tier 1 main contractor in the Midlands. You will lead design coordination across complex, high-value schemes ( 50m+) across sectors including Education, Custodial, Defence, and Blue Light services.

• Lead and coordinate all design activity from pre-construction through to site delivery, driving buildability and value.

• Manage the design program and Information Delivery Plan (IDP) in alignment with procurement and construction schedules.

• Work alongside commercial, operational, and client teams to ensure design solutions are fully coordinated and compliant.

• Manage external design consultants, conduct technical reviews, and lead value engineering and digital design workshops.

About You

You are an accomplished Senior Design Manager with a strong technical background and a proven track record delivering major construction schemes for a Tier 1 main contractor. You possess strong digital design literacy, commercial awareness, and consultant management capability.

• Demonstrate proven experience as a Senior Design Manager within a Tier 1 main contractor environment.

• Possess extensive experience across both pre-construction and site delivery phases on major schemes ( 50m+).

• Show strong technical and multidisciplinary design coordination skills alongside high digital design literacy.

• Exhibit confident communication skills with the ability to manage consultant appointments and constructively challenge design teams.
