About The Role

Due to a continued increase in workload across our Southern region, we are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our growing Design & Engineering team based in Pontyclun.

Working predominantly within the rail sector, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of civil and structural engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects. Typical schemes include stations, bridges, property, civils and multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects for clients including Network Rail and other major stakeholders.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who is capable of managing design activities independently while providing mentoring and guidance to early career professionals. You will work closely with project teams, clients and stakeholders to develop practical, safe and innovative engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and delivery of civil and structural design solutions across a range of rail infrastructure projects.
  • Undertake and manage design activities from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, legislation and client requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review, check and approve engineering designs, calculations and technical documentation.
  • Support project delivery teams with technical advice throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and manage design risks, opportunities and engineering challenges.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and technical support to Graduate and Design Engineers within the team.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and contribute to the successful delivery of project objectives.
  • Support bids, tenders and work-winning activities where required.
About You

You will be a motivated and experienced engineer with a strong background in civil engineering design, ideally gained within rail infrastructure environments. You will be comfortable working autonomously while also supporting the development of less experienced team members.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in civil and structural engineering design.
  • Strong rail infrastructure experience, ideally including stations, bridges, property and associated civils works.
  • Experience managing and coordinating design deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Sound understanding of engineering standards, processes and assurance requirements.
  • Ability to undertake engineering calculations, produce technical reports and review design outputs.
  • Experience of design management and multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and graduates.
What You’ll Bring
  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (BSc / BEng / CEng).
  • Proven experience as a Senior Design Engineer within a rail project environment.
  • Strong civil and structural design experience, ideally including bridges, stations, platforms and associated infrastructure.
  • Chartered status or clear progress toward membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
  • Experience gained in client, contractor or consultancy settings within rail, civil or structural engineering.
  • A collaborative mindset and a commitment to delivering high-quality, safe engineering solutions.
  • An interest in contributing to emerging areas such as AfA schemes, EV charging infrastructure and design management for bids.
