About the role

Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Senior Design Engineer HV Plant to join the Power T&D team in Newcastle. The role involves engineering HV Plant designs for electrical substation projects up to 400kV. All duties should comply with Company Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental Procedures, and Business Process Manual. The role also includes contributing to the development and training of the Design Team. What you'll be doing

Planning Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate contract requirements with Project Manager, customer, suppliers, and other departments upon contract award.
2. Establish design content and resources to meet project timelines through detailed engineering plans.
3. Control, update, and report on progress, providing estimates and highlighting resource issues.

Procurement Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate with departments to specify equipment/materials for optimal benefit.
2. Report and seek approval for scope variations.
3. Prepare instructions for materials and tools for site, passing info to the Project Manager.

Design Responsibilities:

1. Identify standards and customer requirements, ensuring compliance.
2. Design considering health, safety, environmental procedures, and risk assessments.
3. Review contract documentation and define scope.
4. Participate in design review meetings and liaise on drawings.
5. Approve and prepare drawings and installation packages.
6. Manage site as-built drawings and documentation, ensuring accuracy.
7. Highlight and resolve design issues.

Who we're looking for

• Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; BSc/MSc preferred.
• Experience in HV Substation / Primary Plant Design, liaising with customers and suppliers.
• Knowledge of HV Substation power systems and components.
• Basic understanding of P&C aspects is preferable.
• Design calculations demonstrating integrity.
• TP141 HV Substation qualification and AutoCAD experience are advantages.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
