Job Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior Composite Design Engineer to join our Suspension, Steering and Brakes group in our Engineering office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking and guiding a range of designs from initial concepts through to prototype production, as well as supporting the Head of Department and Principal Engineer to deliver performance-enhancing technology.

Our ideal candidate has a strong understanding of composites materials engineering and science, together with detailed knowledge of relevant composites manufacturing technologies.

As a Senior Composite Design Engineer, you will:

  • Layout design schemes respecting regulatory and structural requirements, packaging, aerodynamics, and composite manufacturing techniques. Detailing of parts and assemblies.
  • Perform calculation work and produce system documentation.
  • Conduct and contribute to design reviews at various levels.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of projects, including manufacture, build, testing, and racing, with close collaboration with the wider team.
  • Support checking detailed drawings against specifications and previous designs.
  • Drive continuous improvement and promote autonomous creativity to enhance performance.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote best practices and continuous improvement mindset.

Our ideal candidate is someone with:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification, supported by significant design experience in motorsport, aerospace, or a related field, with end-to-end program management expertise.
  • An understanding of composites stress analysis for preliminary sizing.
  • Strong CAD skills, preferably with NX experience; training will be provided for other CAD systems.
  • The ability to lead and own projects within their expertise.
  • A proactive problem-solving approach and good attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers.
  • A drive to contribute to Williams’ goal of being best in class.
  • A friendly, collaborative attitude, with good communication and organizational skills to integrate well into the design team.
