Qualifications

Overview

We are currently working in partnership with a well-established Tier 1 highways contractor on an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to join their growing in-house design team. This is a fantastic chance to play a key role in the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the UK.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design process on a range of highways projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Produce and review detailed highway designs, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation in accordance with DMRB and other relevant standards.
  • Oversee junior engineers and ensure quality control across all design outputs.
  • Liaise with project managers, site teams, local authorities, and statutory bodies to ensure effective communication and delivery.
  • Provide input to design programmes, risk assessments, and cost plans.
  • Support the development of innovative and sustainable design solutions.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections where required.
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered or working toward Chartership (ICE or similar).
  • Extensive experience in highways engineering and design (local authority or strategic road network).
  • Strong knowledge of DMRB, CDM Regulations, and relevant highway design standards.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MX, or OpenRoads.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
