PuriFire is a thermochemical technology start-up pioneering the production of renewable fuels, chemicals and gases. Our patented hydrothermal treatment technology converts various forms of waste carbon using heat and pressure.

We will utilise solar, geothermal, post-combustion and all waste heat sources to accelerate sustainable fuels, chemicals and gas production.

Role Introduction

Do you want to see your ideas grow into reality? Your multifaceted role will be to develop, optimise and configure thermochemical hydrothermal processing technology from inception through to the commissioning and certification of a Pilot and First-Of-A-Kind (FOAK) green methanol plant.

You will join a highly focused scientific and engineering team developing hydrothermal treatment technologies. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced Design Engineer with a proven track record in delivering innovative and accurate designs on time and to budget to join this expanding start-up business with a bright future!

This role would suit candidates with 10 years of industry experience and looking for a challenging role with a lot of technical autonomy that can develop into technical specialism and/or a team leadership role as the company expands.

Purpose of Role

To develop innovative design solutions using 3D CAD modelling tools (SolidWorks) to meet the goals of internal research and development projects, customer specifications, and International Regulatory Requirements.

The role will develop as the business grows. Training will be provided in specialised skill/knowledge areas on a case-by-case basis.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities

• 3D Modelling & Design: Develop 3D models and assemblies of equipment and systems using SolidWorks, ensuring designs meet functional and safety requirements.
• Technical Drawings: Generate detailed fabrication and assembly drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
• Design Development: Participate in the conceptual design process, contributing creative and practical solutions to engineering challenges.
• Prototyping & Testing: Support the development of prototypes and coordinate with production teams during the manufacturing process.
• BOM Management: Create and maintain bills of materials (BOM) and design documentation.
• Collaboration: Work closely with process engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
• Quality & Compliance: Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality processes.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for design improvements, cost reductions, and increased efficiency.

About you

1.You will be a self-starter, a detail orientated professional with the ability to work independently, who possesses excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work under pressure to stringent deadlines to satisfy demands.

2.Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

3.Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience.

4.You will be a Chartered Engineer or demonstrably working towards chartered status.

5.Proficient in SolidWorks, including 3D modelling, assembly, and drafting modules.

6.Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

7.Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and design for manufacturability (DFM) is a plus.

Familiarity with ASME standards, pressure vessel design and thermal processing technologies is advantageous.
