Job summary

United Utilities is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead the design development of high-value capital projects within our Enterprise Programme. You will provide technical and strategic leadership to ensure designs are safe, efficient, innovative, and aligned with regulatory and sustainability goals.

You will work with senior stakeholders and shape design governance, delivering projects through AMP8 and beyond.

Qualifications

• Significant post graduate experience and Professionally Qualified (or equivalent professional experience).
• Proven leadership of complex projects, integrating input from multiple technical areas and departments.
• Proven communication skills to engage stakeholders and colleagues in solving complex problems.
• Proven experience of schedule management and risk management.
• Proven ability to manage budgets and project controls.
• Demonstrated adoption of innovation, especially with emerging technologies or environmental solutions.
• Experience with health, safety and wellbeing requirements for project delivery (CDM roles).
• Ability to think strategically and collaborate across UU directorates.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development for multiple high-value capital projects within the Enterprise Programme.
• Provide technical and strategic leadership to ensure safe, efficient and innovative designs.
• Advise senior stakeholders and influence design governance and delivery.
• Manage multi-disciplinary teams across a matrix organisation to meet time, cost, carbon and quality drivers.
• Write technical reports and act as single point of contact for technical assurance.
• Conduct project reviews and report monthly on progress and actions.
• Embed standardisation across AMP8 project delivery.
