Senior Deputy Head Teacher (Secondary)

ST HELENA GOVERNMENT
London
GBP 35,000 - 65,000
Job description

Nestled deep in the South Atlantic, St Helena Island is one of the world’s most remote inhabited islands, a place of rugged beauty, warm community spirit, and unparalleled lifestyle opportunities. As a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom, St Helena remains on a path of social and economic development, following the milestone opening of its international airport in 2017. While we remain dependent on UK government aid, we are ambitiously paving the way towards self-sufficiency and, following the Education Review 2025, education is at the very heart of that journey.

We are on an exciting and transformative mission to achieve COBIS (Council of British International Schools) accreditation, a bold commitment to aligning our schools with world-class standards and ensuring lasting, positive change. This is more than a role; it’s a chance to be part of something truly impactful: raising standards, improving outcomes, and delivering excellence that will shape the future of both the island and its children for generations to come.

As a senior leader, you will be at the forefront of this journey, working alongside a dedicated leadership team and passionate educators to inspire, support, and develop a vibrant learning community. You will:

  1. Drive forward ambitious educational standards ensuring all pupils, whatever their background, are equipped for their next stage of education and life.
  2. Champion a positive, inclusive school culture, where high standards of behaviour are underpinned by fairness, consistency, and mutual respect.
  3. Use assessment and data insightfully, shaping strategies that meet the needs of every learner and ensuring no child is left behind.
  4. Lead with inclusion at the core, supporting pupils with SEND through close collaboration with families and professionals to ensure effective, personalised support.

You’ll be a UK-qualified teacher with QTS and a track record of successful leadership and management in education. Your experience in school self-evaluation, development planning, and staff development will be vital as you build capability and confidence across our teams. You are an excellent communicator, an analytical thinker, and an inspiring role model equipped with the knowledge and interpersonal skills to drive improvement and nurture talent.

Crucially, this post is about more than what happens within the school gates. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme, your expertise will contribute to broader island capacity-building, sharing knowledge, developing people, and supporting sustainable progress across the St Helena community.

If you are looking for a truly meaningful leadership challenge, in a setting that offers both adventure and impact, this could be your perfect next step. Come and help us write the next chapter of St Helena’s educational story, one of transformation, innovation, and excellence.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  1. An International Supplement, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at sthelenapublicservicejobs.sh
  2. Relocation Allowances, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at sthelenapublicservicejobs.sh

  4. Annual Leave of 30 days per annum plus Public Holidays
