Overview

Senior Dental Officer (Ref: 226376). Combined Clinical, Leadership & Management Role. Substantive, full-time 37.5 hours per week. Salary £84,180 - £98,460 per annum plus allowances. NHS Shetland offers a unique opportunity to develop a role that combines clinical, leadership and management responsibilities.

We are a progressive Public Dental Service with modern, well-equipped surgeries providing essential dental services to a remote and rural area. A strong focus on patient-centred care and continuous professional development is at our core.

Responsibilities
  • Combine direct clinical care with leading, mentoring and supporting the clinician team.
  • Involve yourself in operational and strategic matters of the service.
  • Receive close support from the Senior Management Team and have the opportunity to develop clinical interests aligned with service needs.
  • Engage with a clinical network of visiting consultants and specialists for Orthodontics, Restorative, OMFS and Special Care Dentistry.
  • Contribute to core PDS services including priority groups, care homes, school inspections and oral health promotion.
Context and Team

The service includes dentists, therapists, dental nurses, oral health advisors and dedicated dental support staff. The service maintains strong links with secondary care and a collaborative approach to patient care.

Remuneration and Benefits
  • Salary: £84,180 - £98,460 per annum.
  • Allowances: Distant Islands Allowance (£2,482 per annum); Remote Areas Allowance (£4,500/annum for years 1-3; £9,000/annum for years 3+; pro rata); Recruitment and Retention Allowance (£25,000 paid over 2 years, subject to eligibility).
  • Out of Hours Allowance & on-call payment (if undertaking on-call duties).
  • Annual leave: Up to 33 days per annum plus 8 public holidays (depending on NHS service).
