Job Summary

As our senior delivery lead you will be working collaboratively to create the most ambitious high-quality solutions that will benefit the thousands of people who need our support every year.

You will be leading and working with our multi-disciplinary teams and reporting on progress to a wide variety of stakeholders ranging from board members to technical developers and suppliers.

Alongside the day job, you will form part of the product and delivery community of practice, working with heads of other product centres to ensure alignment in the organisation and sharing and learning experiences and best practice.

The post requires significant autonomy and initiative as well the ability to inspire a team. The post suits an individual who are confident in their ability to deliver, productive under pressure, takes ownership of deliverables but knows when to ask for approvals or guidance.

Clinical Services supports patients by providing a diverse range of testing laboratories, therapeutic services, blood stem cell collection and issue, and research and development activities. There are very few other jobs where you can use your skills and experience to save and improve the lives of patients with a whole range of diseases in the UK and across the world.

Note: This role offers a hybrid working option, primarily remote with occasional travel to main centres (Barnsley, Birmingham centre, Bristol Filton, Manchester Centre, Tooting Centre, Colindale Centre) based on business requirements. The base location will be finalized after the final interview outcome.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be responsible as part of the Clinical Services product centre for the effective and safe delivery of complex, high-risk and profile technology change that will support the Clinical Services directorate. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Accountability within the product centre as the main point of escalation of any delivery issues.
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring delivery managers and associate delivery leads within the team and manage the delivery budget.
  • Leading the delivery management capability that enables the product centre to effectively plan, schedule and deliver change into the live environment in a standardised and effective manner that can be adopted as best practice in the wider organisation.
  • Ensuring that the capture, priority, approval, scheduling, scope, definition, design and delivery of planned change meets customer needs.
  • Driving delivery to support the successful operation and continuous improvement of the service.
  • Supporting and where required deputising for the Head of Product Centre, lead the delivery of products and services with accountability to the value of c. £2m.
  • Establishing standards of agile practices for the Delivery Lead and Product Management community and looking to continuously improve the methods and tools they use.
  • Working across the product lifecycle to deliver effective change (discovery to live) actively managing all risks, issues, dependencies and their associate mitigations.
  • Providing subject matter expertise in digital delivery at all stages of the product lifecycle, translating complex customer needs into tangible deliveries and releases.
  • Task management and planning to progress each initiative through from discovery to live, supporting the Product Managers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensuring all products and services meet the Government Digital and NHS Service Standards and assessments at time, cost and quality.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of leading large-scale complex projects in the public sector, including working with public sector governance and assurance bodies
  • Expert knowledge in agile and traditional delivery practices, tools and techniques, User Centred Design (UCD), Government Digital Service and wider industry
  • Extensive experience leading and managing traditional and agile design and delivery teams across the product lifecycle
  • Expert at building successful delivery teams and understanding team styles and how people work together, maintain, influence and motivate a team, give and receive feedback, facilitating the feedback loop
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and social care, the NHS and its strategic direction, and relevant political drivers
  • Act in the capacity of Scrum Master during daily sprints and manage conflicting priorities
  • Experience of managing resources against and agreed budget

Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to Masters level OR equivalent and experience in a similar field
  • Recognised qualifications in agile and traditional project and delivery management methodology e.g. Agile Project Management, PRINCE2, Certified Scrum Master OR equivalent experience in agile project management and digital delivery
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
