Qualifications

• Strong ML experience in lending, SME lending essential.
• Strong consumer lending and credit risk knowledge.
• Excellent Python and SQL skills.
• Proven experience delivering models from development to production.
• Experience in fintech, financial services or automated decisioning.
• Understanding of UK credit risk, regulation and model governance.
• Strong communication skills with stakeholders.
• Commercially minded with ownership.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy ML and statistical models across credit risk, affordability and pricing.
• Own the full modelling lifecycle: data exploration, feature engineering, development, validation and deployment.
• Build and enhance automated credit decisioning strategies for SME lending.
• Develop model monitoring frameworks and performance dashboards.
• Introduce new data sources and challenger models with experimentation (A/B testing).
• Translate analytical findings into actionable business recommendations.
• Collaborate with Data and Risk teams to influence underwriting strategy and portfolio performance.

SENIOR DECISION SCIENTIST | SME LENDING

Location: UK, Hybrid (2 days per week office-based)

Salary: £80,00 to £90,000 PA + Annual Bonus

Datatech Analytics is partnering with an ambitious and fast-growing UK financial services business to recruit a Senior Decision Scientist.

Operating in the SME lending market, the business is using technology, data and automated decisioning to transform how businesses access finance. With significant growth ambitions, this is an opportunity to join a business where data science plays a central role in commercial strategy and lending decisions.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Sitting at the intersection of Data Science, Credit Risk and Commercial Strategy, you'll take ownership of developing and deploying advanced decisioning models that directly influence how the business assesses risk, prices finance and manages its lending portfolio.

You'll have the opportunity to challenge existing approaches, introduce new data sources and develop innovative modelling techniques, with genuine ownership of the end-to-end model lifecycle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and deploy machine learning and statistical models across credit risk, affordability and pricing.
• Own the full modelling lifecycle, including data exploration, feature engineering, development, validation and deployment.
• Build and enhance automated credit decisioning strategies for SME lending.
• Develop model monitoring frameworks and performance dashboards.
• Introduce new data sources, challenger models and experimentation, including A/B testing.
• Translate complex analytical findings into actionable business recommendations.
• Work closely with Data and Risk teams to influence underwriting strategy and portfolio performance.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Proven experience delivering models from development through to production.
