Job summary

Avance Consulting in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced DBA to lead enterprise database environments on a high-velocity platform. You will manage Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL, ensure HA/DR, and optimize performance across payments and financial services contexts.

This role includes hands-on tuning, monitoring, and deployment in cloud-native setups. The position is contract-based, requires 3 days onsite per week, and prefers deep Linux/Unix familiarity, backup/recovery expertise, and

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on DBA experience in enterprise environments ideally.
• Strong expertise in at least one major RDBMS (Oracle / SQL Server / PostgreSQL).
• Experience supporting high-volume transactional systems, ideally in payments, banking, or financial services.
• Knowledge of HA/DR technologies (e.g., RAC, AlwaysOn, replication, clustering).
• Strong SQL and performance tuning skills.
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., OEM, Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus).
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments.
• Understanding of backup/recovery strategies and tools
• Experience in Payments, Liquidity, or Core Banking systems
• Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and cloud-native databases
• Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of data security & regulatory requirements in banking (e.g., FCA, PRA)
