Job summary

Duolingo is seeking a Data Scientist to embed with product development teams, delivering data-driven analyses that move outcomes and ROI. You will translate complex findings into leadership-ready narratives and build self-serve dashboards to empower the Growth organization.

The role requires deep ML fluency, strong SQL/Python/R skills, and experience delivering value in a fast-growing consumer tech environment. You will mentor peers and collaborate across Marketing, Finance, and Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or related quantitative field or equivalent demonstrated expertise in analytic methodology.
  • Experience embedding with or supporting a product development team and delivering value from data in real-world settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to distill quantitative work into actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with one or more product development teams to boost impact of iteration and experimentation.
  • Own prioritization and ROI assessment of Data Science opportunities within your area.
  • Translate complex findings into clear narratives for leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Develop analytical foundations within Growth, including self-serve dashboards and methodological guidelines.
  • Mentor and collaborate with other Data Scientists within Growth and across the company.

Job description

  • This person will embed with one or more product development teams, working collaboratively and cross-functionally to increase the impact of product iteration and experimentation
  • Embed within one or more product development teams, building strong stakeholder connections and delivering data products and analyses that move team outcomes
  • Collaborate across functional boundaries with Product Management, Engineering, Design, Marketing, and Finance across every phase of product development
  • Own the prioritization and ROI assessment of Data Science opportunities within your area
  • Translate complex findings into clear narratives for leadership and cross-functional partners. Influence strategic decisions through technical depth and effective communication
  • Contribute to the analytical foundations within Growth, developing definitions, methodological guidelines, and self-serve dashboards that enable others to operate with data fluency
  • Mentor and learn from other Data Scientists both within the Growth pillar and across the company

The ideal candidate combines deep technical fluency in data science and machine learning with exceptional communication skills and an acute product sense. They can identify the right questions to ask, use data analysis to create clarity in decision making, and deliver scalable data products and models as the situation demandsExceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex quantitative work into crisp, actionable insights for diverse audiencesStrong command of SQL, Python or R, AI tools, and data/analytics engineering ecosystemsFluency with standard machine learning and predictive modeling techniquesExperience working as a Data Scientist embedded with or supporting a product development team. You have experience creating value from data in messy real-world settingsA graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent demonstrated expertise in formal analysis methodologyAn impressive Duolingo streakExperience building, maintaining, and improving production machine learning models and the infrastructure that supports themExperience operating at a high-growth, data-intensive consumer technology company, particularly in the user growth area
