Job summary

Arthur Recruitment in London is partnering with a leading London Market insurance business to hire a Senior Data Scientist. This end-to-end role blends machine learning, production-grade Python, MLOps and commercial insurance to enhance profitability and automate processes.

You will work closely with underwriters and actuaries, build cloud-based ML pipelines, and explore Generative AI to drive new insights and automation while mentoring junior teammates and shaping the DS roadmap.

Senior Data Scientist – Insurance & Machine Learning

London | Hybrid | Full Time

£85,000 + up to 40% bonus + 10% pension

We’re partnering with a leading London Market insurance business looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join its growing Data Science function.

This is a genuinely end-to-end Data Science role, combining machine learning, production-grade Python, MLOps and commercial insurance. You’ll work directly with underwriting and actuarial teams to build solutions that improve profitability, automate processes and generate actionable insights.

What you'll be doing

• Lead Data Science and ML projects end to end, from problem definition through to production
• Build models and insights that improve underwriting performance and profitability
• Partner directly with underwriters and actuaries across different insurance classes
• Build and maintain cloud-based ML pipelines, owning models through monitoring, drift and retraining
• Explore Generative AI / LLMs and Data Science to drive automation and new insights
• Raise standards across MLOps, CI/CD, testing and model versioning
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the wider Data Science roadmap

What we're looking for

• Strong Python, SQL and production-quality software engineering skills
• Proven experience deploying Machine Learning models into production
• Strong ML and statistical modelling experience
• Hands-on MLOps and CI/CD, including deployment, monitoring and retraining
• Cloud ML experience, ideally Azure / Azure ML / Azure DevOps, although AWS or GCP is considered
• Strong commercial and stakeholder skills, with the ability to turn business problems into practical Data Science solutions

Highly advantageous

• Lloyd’s / London Market insurance experience
• Knowledge of underwriting, pricing, reserving or actuarial processes
• PySpark or distributed processing experience
