Job summary

Jet2.com Limited is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join its Data Science team in the UK. You will deliver high-impact data science initiatives and collaborate with colleagues across marketing, pricing, customer insights and operations to optimise business processes.

You will apply ML and statistical modelling, explain results to stakeholders, and drive data-driven decision making while keeping up to date with evolving technologies and governance requirements.

Qualifications

• Highly numerate with a statistical background.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and Python (desirable).
• Experience delivering data science initiatives from concept to production.
• Comfort gathering data from multiple sources and cleansing/enriching data.
• Understanding of data governance and data quality.

Job description

We're looking to add an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Data Scientist to our Jet2 Data Science team. Reporting to our Lead Data Scientists, our new Senior Data Scientist will be key to the Jet2 Data Science Team. What you'll be doing:

• You'll take responsibility for the delivery of key data science initiatives capable of realising significant value, combining insights gained from multiple large data sources with the contextual understanding and experience of our colleagues across the business.
• You'll be joining a large and established team of Data Science professionals based across our UK and India bases, who are using Data Science to understand, automate and optimise key business processes.
• You'll work right across the broad range of our customer journey: from informing our marketing strategy, pricing our products, understanding our customers and their needs before, during and post their experience, and improving our airline and holiday operations.
• You'll be expected to work with internal teams across the business, to identify, collaborate with, and enthuse stakeholders across the wider group.
• You'll take responsibility for the delivery of an initiative and adopt our ways of working, being able to break down initiatives into measurable tasks, and report progress and issues blocking progress. Working within a pod of Data Scientists under management of a Lead Data Scientist.
• Execute the application of machine learning and statistical modelling tools suited to the identified initiative.
• You'll be skilled at storytelling, being able to explain the generated solution to our stakeholders and produce recommendations on how the business can realise value from this work.
• Throughout the projects you'll ensure you have an awareness of and are adhering to the appropriate regulatory and internal policy requirements.

What you'll have:

• You will be highly numerate with a statistical background, with strong expertise in SQL and Python being desirable.
• We're utilising the Data Science tools in the AWS Stack, so a good understanding of Sagemaker, Bedrock, and AWS Cloud Components would be highly desirable.
• Snowflake is our Central Data Platform, of which some experience would be desirable.
• Demonstrable experience in delivering data science initiatives from concept into production would be highly desirable.
• You will be skilled in gathering data from multiple sources, in multiple formats, and cleansing and enriching that data.
• You will have an appreciation of the importance of data governance, and of how to assess and enhance the quality of our data.
• Given the pace of change in new technologies and techniques, you will show commitment to keeping your own knowledge up to date through self-learning, and be supported with opportunities to complete relevant courses, attend industry events, and obtain technical certifications.
• You will also be given the opportunity to pass on your expertise to and coach our Data Scientists and be supported to develop the people management skills required for that next step in your career progression.
