Job description

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Underwriting team, either working remotely or based in our Salford Quays, Manchester, or Haywards Heath, West Sussex offices.

In this role, you'll work as part of a team of Data Scientists and specialists to deliver innovative services, creating value from the company's vast information assets. Your main focus will be applying data science techniques to analyze large datasets from various sources, building predictive models, and developing machine learning algorithms to generate actionable insights. You'll collaborate with other teams and work seamlessly with our in-house technology provider.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Develop data services such as deep learning, predictive analytics, and machine learning to solve business problems.
  2. Perform data analysis and collection to support these services.
  3. Enhance data sources through testing external data.
  4. Collaborate with team members, other teams, and suppliers to deliver solutions and review junior team members' output.
  5. Identify opportunities where data science can add value across the organization.
  6. Adhere to good coding practices, risk controls, and report potential risks.
  7. Comply with company policies, standards, and regulations.
  8. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Experience in data science with proficiency in Python and machine learning.
  • Track record of building and training models for real-world problems.
  • Previous data science experience in a relevant role.

Nice-to-have skills include insurance industry experience, Databricks knowledge, and familiarity with statistical techniques, data platforms, data structures, and visualization tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills are essential. A degree in Data Science or a related quantitative field is required.
