Hippo is a fast-growing digital consultancy delivering transformative digital solutions for public and private clients. We seek a Senior Data Science Engineer to lead data science initiatives, mentor staff, and deliver secure, scalable data-driven services.

You will work across data, design, product, and engineering to solve complex problems with real business impact. You will lead production of user-centred data science solutions, drive collaboration with stakeholders, and grow in a senior role

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team combining data, design, product, delivery, analysis, and engineering to deliver bespoke digital services that make a positive and meaningful impact on organisations and society.

You will act as a Senior Consultant to deliver Data Science Engineering services to our clients.

Senior Data Science Engineers are experienced practitioners who lead by example, ensuring technical excellence within squads and mentoring junior members of the engineering community.

Our solutions empower our customers to build and support secure, scalable, and well-engineered systems beyond traditional boundaries that allow our customers to understand and get the most from their data and digital services.

The Senior Data Science Engineer will be a key player and implementer in this.

Please note we are looking for candidates who are looking for growth at the Senior level; therefore, the advertised salary band represents the entry point for this level, allowing for clear progression within the role, which we are very keen to support.

Your Role in a Nutshell

Lead the production of user-centred data science solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices and business requirements.

Facilitate collaboration with stakeholders to design and deliver solutions to complex problems.

Develop and expand Data Science capabilities and support capability building within the organisation.

Manage machine learning deployment pipelines (MLOps) and resolve potential bottlenecks.

Mentor and coach other engineers to support their professional development.

About the Candidate: Essential Experience

Extensive experience in Python and proficiency in other languages (e.g., SQL, R, Java).

Strong experience deploying and monitoring machine learning (MLOps) using tools such as MLflow, AWS Sagemaker, and Azure Machine Learning.

Proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable data science solutions.

Expertise in Data Manipulation, ML, and Statistical Analysis coding packages.

Strong experience in testing data models and Machine Learning Models.

Deep understanding of product delivery from requirements to desirable business outcomes.

Demonstrable experience applying Natural Language Processing (NLP) to areas such as information retrieval.

Proven ability to design, build, and optimise recommender systems.

Strong experience in experimental design, including A/B testing and randomised control trials.

Hippo Locations

We are headquartered in Leeds and have offices across the UK in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol.

We're on the lookout for top talent nationwide but you need to be located within reasonable travelling distance from one of our offices.

Given the dynamic nature of a consulting business, you may be required to work on-site at a Hippo office or at an in/out of town client location for a number of days per week (client dependent) and therefore candidates will need to be open/flexible to travel and working on one of those sites at least 2 days per week.

We offer a generous relocation support package of up to £8,000 (please ask for terms and conditions) to help make your move a smooth one.
