Job summary

Hippo Digital Limited is seeking a Senior Data Science Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team delivering data-driven digital services for public and private clients. You will lead user-centered data science solutions, mentor engineers, and advance MLOps across projects.

The role involves working with Python, ML tooling, and experimentation across on-site UK offices with regular client sites; travel and flexible site work are expected as part of a hybrid model.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Python; proficient in SQL, R and Java.
• Experience deploying and monitoring ML pipelines (MLOps) using MLflow, AWS SageMaker, and Azure ML.
• Proven track record delivering high-quality, scalable data science solutions.
• Expertise in data manipulation, ML, and statistical analysis coding packages.
• Experience testing data models and ML models.
• Deep understanding of product delivery from requirements to business outcomes.
• Desirable: NLP applications to information retrieval.
• Desirable: recommender systems design and optimisation.
• Desirable: experimental design including A/B testing and RCTs.

As a Senior Data Science Engineer, you will play an important role in making Hippo the best Consultancy out there. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team combining data, design, product, delivery, analysis, and engineering to deliver bespoke digital services that make a positive and meaningful impact on organisations and society. You will act as a Senior Consultant to deliver Data Science Engineering services to our clients. Senior Data Science Engineers are experienced practitioners who lead by example, ensuring technical excellence within squads and mentoring junior members of the engineering community.

Our solutions empower our customers to build and support secure, scalable, and well-engineered systems beyond traditional boundaries that allow our customers to understand and get the most from their data and digital services. The Senior Data Science Engineer will be a key player and implementer in this.

Please note we are looking for candidates who are looking for growth at the Senior level; therefore, the advertised salary band represents the entry point for this level, allowing for clear progression within the role, which we are very keen to support.

Your Role in a Nutshell

Skills and experience that you need

Essential Experience

• Extensive experience in Python and proficiency in other languages (e.g., SQL, R, Java).
• Strong experience deploying and monitoring machine learning (MLOps) using tools such as MLflow, AWS Sagemaker, and Azure Machine Learning.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable data science solutions.
• Expertise in Data Manipulation, ML, and Statistical Analysis coding packages.
• Strong experience in testing data models and Machine Learning Models.
• Deep understanding of product delivery from requirements to desirable business outcomes.

Desirable Experience

• Demonstrable experience applying Natural Language Processing (NLP) to areas such as information retrieval.
• Proven ability to design, build, and optimise recommender systems.
• Strong experience in experimental design, including A/B testing and randomised control trials.

Hippo Locations

We are headquartered in Leeds and have offices across the UK in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol. We're on the lookout for top talent nationwide but you need to be located within reasonable travelling distance from one of our offices. Given the dynamic nature of a consulting business, you may be required to work on-site at a Hippo office or at an in/out of town client location for a number of days per week (client dependent) and therefore candidates will need to be open/flexible to travel and working on one of those sites at least 2 days per week. We offer a generous relocation support package of up to £8,000 (please ask for terms and conditions) to help make your move a smooth one.
