Job summary

Howden Group is seeking an experienced Senior Risk & Compliance Consultant (Data Privacy / DPO) for an initial 12-month fixed-term contract. Hybrid working from UK offices with flexible hours; full-time preferred (36.25h) with option for 4 days.

You will support multiple client engagements, develop privacy governance, and advise on AI/privacy risks while collaborating across legal and security teams. The role involves proactive privacy advisory work, reactive incident support, and delivering

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a busy multi-client consultancy or equivalent in-house role
• Ability to tailor privacy advice to different business models and regulatory environments
• Practical experience handling data breaches and incident response
• Experience assessing AI and automated processing of personal data
• Demonstrated ability to conduct third-party privacy risk assessments
• Ability to produce high-quality, structured written outputs including audit reports
• Experience designing and delivering privacy training and awareness sessions
• Excellent communication skills translating privacy requirements for technical and non-technical audiences
• Broader business understanding aligning privacy compliance with operational and commercial realities
• Experience across regulated and non-regulated sectors (e.g. financial services, healthcare, tech)

Responsibilities

• Support multiple client engagements across sectors in a busy consulting environment
• Proactively assess and improve clients' data protection and privacy posture
• Advise on privacy implications of AI and automated decision-making technologies
• Conduct third-party privacy assessments and data processing due diligence
• Produce clear audit and assessment reports with prioritised recommendations
• Provide pragmatic advice during data breaches and incident response
• Deliver privacy education and training tailored to audiences
• Embed privacy into day-to-day operations with cross-functional teams
• Communicate effectively with senior leaders and non-technical stakeholders
• Stay updated on GDPR/UK GDPR guidance and best practices
