We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Data Platform Engineer to provide expertise in building data processing frameworks to handle business critical data. Reporting to the Data Platform Manager you will work as part of a team of platform engineers, as subject matter experts, leading on the design, implementation and testing of high quality, robust data platforms. Working in conjunction with the Data Delivery and Quality Assurance teams to provide quality solutions for the Data Science and Reporting and Analytics functions. The Senior Data Platform Engineer will lead on ensuring solutions are produced to the highest possible standard and within industry standards.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Data Platform Engineer to provide expertise in building data processing frameworks to handle business critical data.

Reporting to the Data Platform Manager you will work as part of a team of platform engineers, as subject matter experts, leading on the design, implementation and testing of high quality, robust data platforms. Working in conjunction with the Data Delivery and Quality Assurance teams to provide quality solutions for the Data Science and Reporting and Analytics functions.

The Senior Data Platform Engineer will lead on ensuring solutions are produced to the highest possible standard and within industry standards.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop the data platform on Azure, using advanced T-SQL, Azure pipelines, and PySpark within Azure Synapse to produce the robust, reliable ETL/ELT processes that provide data for NHSR’s reporting, analytical, and data science functions.
  • Play a pivotal role in the transition to our cloud-based data platform in Azure.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance and Data Delivery teams to provide highly accurate and reliable data.
  • Act as an expert within our Azure DevOps CI/CD development framework.
  • Manage and maintain our legacy data platform during the transition to the cloud.
  • Support colleagues on technical matters, including the complex data sets available to the organisation.

What you’ll bring:

  • Expert level knowledge of and experience with Azure data platform is required
  • Advanced level knowledge of and experience with Python for data engineering is required
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other teams to improve ways of working
  • Extensive experience of complex SQL code to include development of scripts, functions, and procedures
  • Ability to work autonomously daily, within broad occupational policies and targets and meet with manager regularly to discuss progress, complex issues, or areas of concern

This role offers flexible working with a possibility to work fully remotely or on a hybrid basis from our Leeds or London offices. If you are a homeworker there will be a requirement to travel to our London offices for meetings at least quarterly. Travel expenses are covered for this.

Essential

  • Educated to Masters Degree level or equivalent relevant experience in data analysis and management

Desirable

  • PRINCE 2
  • Microsoft Azure Certification DP-900 Azure Data Fundamentals
  • Microsoft Azure Certification DP-203 Azure Data Engineer Associate
Experience

Essential

  • Experience from your current and/or a previous role in data analysis and management
  • Expert level knowledge of and experience with Azure data platform
  • Advanced level knowledge of and practical experience with Python for data engineering
  • Experience of working with wider teams to improve ways of working
  • Extensive experience of complex SQL code to include development of scripts, functions, and procedures

Desirable

  • Experience of using Power BI and creating reports/analyzing data using it.
  • Experience of maintaining database back-end processes such as jobs, backups, and linked servers
