Job summary

trg. is seeking a Senior / Staff Data Engineer (Streaming & Experimentation) for a 6-month contract, fully remote in the UK.

You will own architecture and delivery of production streaming pipelines and shape the next generation of streaming frameworks to onboard new data sources quickly. Responsibilities include supporting the experimentation stack, enforcing data contracts and freshness standards, and collaborating with data, analytics and ML teams.

Qualifications

• Design, build and run production streaming or event-driven systems at scale (preferably with Kafka).
• Strong programming in at least two of Scala, Kotlin or Python.
• Solid understanding of Kafka Connect, schema registries, distributed systems, failure modes, backpressure and data loss.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and delivery of production streaming pipelines and the data layer they feed.
• Lead the design of next-gen streaming frameworks for quick, reliable onboarding of new data sources.
• Support and extend the experimentation stack (Optimizely, feature flags, AB testing) and ensure trustworthy results.
• Define data contracts, freshness standards and alerting for reliable downstream usage.
• Collaborate with data, analytics, ML, and insights stakeholders, aligning boundaries and priorities.
• Be escalation point for complex streaming issues and raise engineering standards via reviews.
