Job summary

NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise for secure data pipelines and research datasets in the Southwest Secure Data Environment.

Role requires advanced SQL/Python skills, data modelling and data integration experience, with flexible regional/home working and travel to partner organisations as required.

Qualifications

• Educated to master's level or equivalent senior experience in data/analytics/technical environments.
• Significant experience designing, developing and supporting complex data pipelines and data integration solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with SQL, Python and modern data engineering tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, testing and delivery of complex health and care data pipelines, models and datasets.
• Translate needs into technical specifications for secure, scalable data solutions.
• Collaborate with NHS providers and researchers to understand source systems and data flows.
• Profile, validate and ensure quality of data; manage extraction, ingestion, transformation, and curation.
• Automate processes to improve reliability, traceability and efficiency of data delivery.
• Coordinate engineering across projects; identify risks and dependencies; escalate as needed.
• Mentor engineers, peer-review code and pipelines, and promote best practices.
