Job summary

MCS Group | Your Specialist Recruitment Consultancy in Belfast is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to drive enterprise data modelling and reporting across Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Planning and CRM. You will bridge business requirements with the data platform and design scalable models that power global analytics.

This role offers hybrid working, exposure to cloud data technologies, and a path to grow within a large international organisation.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing conceptual, logical and physical data models.
• Strong SQL skills and data validation experience.
• Hands-on dbt experience for transformations and modelling.
• Experience with ERP/CRM platforms (SAP advantageous).
• Knowledge of dimensional modelling and data warehousing principles.
• Experience gathering requirements from business stakeholders.
• Excellent communication translating technical concepts to business language.

Responsibilities

• Lead workshops and requirements sessions with business stakeholders across Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Planning and CRM.
• Design and maintain enterprise data models for reporting and analytics.
• Develop and maintain dbt models, including transformations, testing and documentation.
• Define source-to-target mappings and data lineage across ERP, CRM and other platforms.
• Produce ER diagrams, data dictionaries and technical documentation.
• Ensure governance through master data modelling and data quality practices.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering, Analytics and BI teams to deliver reusable data assets.
• Promote data modelling standards and enterprise architecture alignment.

Belfast | Hybrid | £50,000 - £60,000 This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly expanding team supporting enterprise-wide analytics and data transformation across Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Planning and CRM. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing scalable data models that enable business-critical reporting, analytics and decision-making across a global organisation.

Senior Data Engineer

The Role

Working closely with senior architects, data engineers and business stakeholders, you will act as the bridge between corporate functions and the data platform, translating business requirements into robust enterprise data models.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead workshops and requirements gathering sessions with business stakeholders across Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Planning and CRM.
• Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models for enterprise reporting and analytics.
• Develop and maintain dbt models, including transformations, testing, documentation and reusable components.
• Define source-to-target mappings and data lineage across ERP, CRM and other enterprise platforms.
• Produce ER diagrams, data dictionaries and technical documentation.
• Ensure consistency and integrity through strong master data modelling and governance practices.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering, Analytics and BI teams to deliver reusable, scalable data assets.
• Promote data modelling standards, naming conventions and best practices across the organisation.
• Work closely with senior technical leaders to align solutions with enterprise architecture standards.

About You

We're keen to speak with experienced Data Modelers, Data Architects, Analytics Engineers or Senior Data Engineers with strong data modelling expertise.

You’ll ideally have:

• Proven experience designing conceptual, logical and physical data models.
• Strong SQL skills and experience analysing and validating complex datasets.
• Hands‑on experience with dbt for data transformations and modelling.
• Experience working with enterprise ERP or CRM platforms (SAP experience is advantageous but not essential).
• Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, data warehousing and enterprise data architecture principles.
• Experience gathering requirements and working directly with business stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
