Job summary

Maxwell Bond are partnering with a growing Manchester business to appoint a Senior Data Engineer who will shape its data capabilities and own a greenfield data platform. You will drive ingestion, storage and modelling while ensuring data quality and governance to support analytics and AI initiatives.

You’ll work closely with the CTO and wider tech team, setting standards and guiding the data function as the platform evolves.

Qualifications

• Commercial Data Engineering experience combining hands-on delivery with architecture input
• Strong SQL skills across relational databases; understanding NoSQL and time-series data
• Experience building data platforms such as data lakes, lakehouses or warehouses
• Proficient in data ingestion, transformation and modelling
• Pragmatic, collaborative approach to scalable data solutions with governance and analytics readiness

Maxwell Bond are partnering with a growing Manchester business looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in building and shaping its data capabilities.

With significant investment in technology and a growing focus on data-led decision-making, the organisation is developing a new data platform to support its continued growth, improve business intelligence and lay the foundations for future analytics and AI applications.

This is an opportunity to join a growing technology function at an exciting stage, taking ownership of a greenfield data platform, influencing technical decisions and helping establish the standards and foundations for a new data team.

What you'll do as a Senior Data Engineer:

• Design and build a modern data platform, combing high volume data into a well-structured environment.
• Lead data ingestion, storage and modelling across databases, looking at accessibility and fit for operational use.
• Establish data quality and retention strategies, building a scalable foundation.
• Work with CTO and wider technology team to shape platform decisions, evaluate technologies and prioritise improvements.
• Set engineering standards and best practices, providing technical guidance and helping develop the wider data function.

What we're looking for:

• Commercial Data Engineering experience, ability to combine hands-on delivery with architectural input.
• Strong SQL skills, experience across relational databases, and an understanding of NoSQL, time-series data and database performance.
• Experience building modern data platforms, including data lakes, lakehouses or warehouses.
• Strong knowledge of data ingestion, transformation and modelling.
• A pragmatic, collaborative approach to building scalable data solutions, with an understanding of data quality, governance and preparing data for analytics, machine learning and AI.
• Background in energy or regulated environments is beneficial, but not required.
