This organisation is passionate about helping government, charity and other not-for-profit clients improve outcomes through better use of data, and they have a new role in their team for a like-minded, high-performing technical leader.

Whether it's through improving educational outcomes or identifying groups most at risk of fuel poverty, it's your new team’s ability to process and analyse data, and clearly convey insights, that enable clients to take meaningful action. This organisation is looking for a Senior Data Consultant who can evidence deep technical expertise alongside an aptitude for developing team members and building client relationships and shares a desire to solve social challenges through technology.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to and working closely with the Technical Director, this is a technical leadership role. You will be responsible for managing and developing junior technical staff as well as leading systems development, process automation and dashboard design projects.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing new database schemas for use on client projects and internally.
  • Using SQL and other tools to improve data processes used in:Preparing and uploading data for databases which power website applications.Importing, extracting and manipulating data into and out of the DataHub to drive dashboard reports.Querying data for use in analysis products and predictive models.
  • Making structural changes to databases which underpin analysis websites, for example when new features are being built, tested, and implemented.
  • Automating data extraction and load processes, including using APIs to facilitate data transfer.
  • Assisting in designing and developing web-based applications as well as implementing new features on existing systems.
  • Automating processes to help speed up routine tasks that the analyst team carry out (for example using VBA or Power Automate/Power Query).

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Identify and embed new software, as well as ways of working to improve and streamline how they operate.
  • Provide oversight of the work of junior analysts, for example via code reviews and other quality control.
  • Manage relationships with technical associates and software agencies, including setting objectives, agreeing on the approach to work, and ensuring successful delivery of outsourced technical work.
  • Mentor and manage junior analysts, including identifying skill development pathways.
  • Deliver technical training programmes across the team.
  • Help ensure good technical standards across the team, including version control, code commenting, etc.

Consulting Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage client projects with significant technical elements.
  • Gather requirements, and then Manage client relationships.
  • Identify and evaluate different technical solutions to meet requirements.
  • Ensure that deliverables meet standards and that client requirements are met.
  • Provide training and guidance to ensure the client fully benefits from the technical implementation.
  • Help to plan, develop, and roll out the organisations new Index platform.

Interpersonal Requirements :

  • Extensive experience in managing relationships with clients (external or internal) to ensure their technical and/or data requirements are met, for example through a consulting, agency, or contractor relationship.
  • A deep understanding of how technology can be used to improve business processes.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in clear, plain English terms to non-technical audiences.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing junior staff to improve their technical skillsets.
  • Excellent understanding of database design, including data structures appropriate for different use cases, for example powering front-end applications and analysis dashboards.

Technical Requirements:

  • Proficient with SQL (can be PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Server).
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following:
  • System deployment tools, such as Docker, GitHub, etc
  • Process automation, for example through Power Automate, Visual Basic, or other code-based solutions
  • Tableau, PowerBI or other dashboard and visualisation tools
  • Microsoft Excel

Salary £60K to £65K p.a. depending on experience

25 days annual leave + bank holidays (you can also buy or sell up to 5 days per year)
