Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a Senior Data Compliance Assistant to join the Registration, Data Compliance and Electoral Services Team. You will work with the Senior Data Compliance Officer to ensure statutory obligations and high information governance standards.

You will advise across the council on data compliance matters, manage SAR/FOI/EIR requests, assist investigations into breaches, and help develop governance processes.

Qualifications

• Degree educated or equivalent qualification; or minimum five years' experience in data compliance services.
• Significant experience in a relevant data compliance or information governance environment.
• Sound understanding of Local Authority Data Compliance Services.
• Experience and knowledge of FOI, Data Protection and Subject Access Request legislation.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and decision-making skills.
• Ability to interpret legislation and complex reports and provide clear advice.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Experience of supervising or supporting the work of others.

Responsibilities

• Providing advice, guidance and support on data compliance matters across the Council.
• Managing and advising on Subject Access Requests, FOI Requests, EIR Requests and Data Protection Act enquiries.
• Supporting investigations into data protection breaches on behalf of the Data Protection Officer; assisting with ICO responses.
• Preparing reports, records and legal documentation as required.
• Attending conferences with Counsel and preparing briefs and supporting documentation where necessary.
• Supporting the development and implementation of information governance systems and processes.
• Supervising and providing guidance to junior members of staff as required.
• Promoting a culture of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion throughout the service.
