About the role

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Data Analyst to join our Infrastructure & Programme, Asset Management team. In this role you will be specifically supporting the Waterway Investment Manager in producing analytical reports and narratives relating to Asset Management activities, maintaining the integrity of asset data and management systems, quality assurance, guidance and support of team members. This will include:

  • Providing data across the asset life-cycle; including asset condition, fault data & performance reports.
  • Advising on trends in order to support senior managers and team managers to identify opportunities for improved productivity and compliance/performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).
  • Defining the most suitable reporting solution(s) for the variety of different stakeholders we interact with.
  • Quality Assurance: Leading on data system transfer - identifying the key data, supporting the move and cleansing relevant data.

Location

This role is based working from home, with a requirement to attend our main hub spaces from time to time for team working and collaborative meetings. It is important that you are able to reasonably commute to one of our main hubs below.

Relevant hubs include: Leeds, Ellesmere Port, Burnley, Newark, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Gloucester.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Key accountabilities:

  • To contribute to the development, implementation & measurement of asset management strategies that are clearly integrated with, and deliver against, the Trust's vision, strategic goals, priorities & objectives.
  • To coordinate the development & maintenance of asset information management systems with both internal & external stakeholders (SAP / GIS / Navigate/ Lima/ Survey 123/ BI / Asset Modelling Software) so they provide robust information which can be used to defend Trust priorities and action.
  • Develop and produce high quality performance reports.
  • Work with operational managers to determine data analysis and reporting needs and implement accordingly.
  • Identify and promote continuous improvement opportunities and recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Interrogation of data and problem investigation.
  • Provide analytical support and develop an understanding of the impact of operational activities on the Trust's customers.
  • Ensure high quality, accurate data is collected and its integrity is maintained at all times.
  • Establish, maintain and implement standards, processes and systems for data management and analysis.
  • Carry out performance analysis and output reporting for the Asset Management Directorate by providing analytical reports and advising trends in order to support senior managers and team managers to identify opportunities for improved productivity and compliance/performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).
  • To deputise for the Waterway Investment Manager as required.
  • Work safely ensuring the safety of others and contribute to safe working in all activities.
  • Display the Trust values and behaviours at all times.

About you

As this role sits within our Asset Management team, we are looking for someone with established data mining experience, has good knowledge in identifying civil engineering/infrastructure problems, and is confident outlining these effectively in report form.

We are currently in the process of changing our ERP system, so experience conducting data systems transfer/cleansing is advantageous.

Technical:

  • Degree in relevant discipline (Engineering, Asset management, Project Management, Data Science)
  • Experienced in working in unfamiliar industries/ areas of work, and successfully developing the understanding of those industries sufficient to enable high quality data management and analysis.
  • Experienced in undertaking and presenting analysis to monitor cost control, productivity, outputs vs targets and programme.
  • Analytical in approach, being able to identify solutions to complex scenarios and operational needs.
  • Intermediate/Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including X-Lookup and Pivot Tables.
  • Ability to present data to engage a variety of audiences (for example using data visualisation tools) and effectively manage stakeholders' expectations.
  • Review, advise and support more junior team members and establish processes, standards and templates for others to follow to ensure quality and best practice.
  • Oversee internal and external projects within a data analytics team.
  • Co-ordinate teams to resolve problems and implement solutions.
  • Capability of obtaining data from external sources (e.g. supplier portals) to generate reporting for the Trust's purposes in an automated way.
  • Experienced in the use of PowerBI to visualise data and develop a narrative for the information presented, or other visualisation tools.
  • Experienced in the creation and delivery of communication pieces related to the data.

General:

  • Organisational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically.
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative as well as a part of a team.
