Job summary

RES plc in Glasgow invites a Senior Data & AI/ML Engineer to design, build, and operate enterprise-grade data pipelines and AI-ready data products. You will own the data infrastructure, mentor engineers, and partner across engineering and governance to deliver end-to-end solutions.

You will lead AI/ML engineering, apply MLOps practices, and contribute to Synapse-to-Fabric migrations with AI-assisted tooling, ensuring observability, cost efficiency, and robust CI/CD for data and ML workloads.

Qualifications

• 10+ years delivering enterprise-grade data engineering solutions.
• Strong Microsoft Azure data ecosystem expertise (ADF, Synapse, Fabric, Purview, Unity Catalogue).
• Advanced Python skills with open-source data and ML libraries and production pipelines.
• Experience building production data infrastructure for AI/ML use cases.
• Experience with MLOps practices: CI/CD for data and ML pipelines, IaC.
• Experience with dbt, Airflow/Prefect orchestration.
• Certifications in Microsoft Azure or AI/ML.
• Exposure to working with data scientists and AI engineers in a shared platform model.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate data pipelines and curated datasets powering enterprise reporting, analytics, and AI/ML use cases.
• Lead AI/ML engineering as a core workstream, designing feature-ready datasets and model pipelines for AI-ready data products.
• Engineer data products and pipelines that support LLM and GenAI use cases.
• Drive engineering automation and AI-assisted tooling to reduce manual effort and build internal patterns for speed.
• Own engineering quality, performance, and cost across the platform with testing and observability.
• Build and maintain production-grade data infrastructure on Azure / Fabric, including data lakes and lakehouses.
• Define CI/CD pipelines for data and ML workflows with IaC and quality gates.
• Apply containerisation/orchestration (Docker, Airflow) to production workloads.
• Partner with architecture, governance, data modelling, and reporting to deliver end-to-end data and AI products.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to the Synapse-to-Fabric migration programme.
