Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Engineer in Reading, offering hybrid work at Clearwater Court. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and sustaining security controls across IT and OT, with on-going threat detection, rapid response, and risk reduction.

You will collaborate with IT/OT teams, maintain security platforms (SIEM, SOAR, EDR, and email security), and support audits and continuous improvement. A CTC clearance is required for eligibility.

Qualifications

• Experience in Security Engineering, with focus on detection & response in an enterprise environment.
• Strong understanding of IT and OT systems and infrastructure.
• Experience identifying and remediating cyber risks in evolving digital environments.
• Familiarity with SIEM, EDR, email security and IAM technologies.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to design, implement and maintain security controls meeting requirements and risk mitigation.
• Implement and maintain detection and response capabilities through SIEM integration with IT systems.
• Participation in a 24x7 on-call rota, responding to SIEM health alerts and log ingestion issues.
• Manage use cases, data enrichment, and automate containment workflows.
• Develop and manage operational procedures and reporting methodology.
• Oversee security technology platforms (SIEM, SOAR, EDR, email security).
• Monitor control performance and coordinate remediation where gaps exist.
• Automate operational procedures and reporting, integrating outputs into risk reporting frameworks.
• Liaise with IT and OT teams to ensure controls align with baselines.
• Align control design with industry standards (NIS, ISO27001, GDPR).
• Support audits, reviews, and assessments of security controls.
• Identify and implement improvements to control coverage and resilience.
• Proactively advise on technology, best practices, and delivery models.
