Job description

Job Description for Senior Criticality Consultant:

This role involves applying your skills to ensure safety in nuclear projects. Working in Safety, Security & Safeguards, you will contribute to innovative projects that distinguish NNL in the sector, using nuclear science to benefit society by supporting cleaner energy, waste reduction, and safety.

With the UK nuclear industry expanding into new developments such as modular reactors, nuclear medicine, and decommissioning, NNL leads in criticality safety assessment. You will provide expert advice and assessment for NNL and external clients, leading technical developments, and enhancing team capabilities.

The role includes building relationships across stakeholders, guiding project delivery, developing new technologies, representing NNL at forums, and understanding stakeholder needs.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Lead criticality safety projects ensuring they meet objectives, managing relationships, and overseeing team activities.
  2. Support external criticality consultancy services.
  3. Maintain expertise in criticality safety methodologies and stay updated on industry developments.
  4. Lead multidisciplinary safety teams and develop new opportunities and capabilities.
  5. Represent NNL in national industry groups.

Essential criteria include a relevant degree, demonstrable criticality safety experience, independence, team leadership, and networking skills. Desirable is Chartered Membership of a professional body.
