Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the North East Crisis Team as a Senior Crisis Practitioner.

This is a full time post with 37 hours per week. It is a 7 day service with shifts of 9-5, 9-4:30 or 12-8. It is essential you are an NMC registered Mental Health Nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Provide rapid, specialist mental health assessment and contribute to a robust treatment plan for individuals in acute crisis.
  • Support delivery of care in community settings as an alternative to hospital admission, and work to minimise length of stay in acute inpatient settings by facilitating home passes or discharge where clinical risk can be managed in the community.
  • Work alongside inpatient staff to identify individuals whose care needs can be met in a community setting.
  • Provide clinical leadership to more junior team members, prioritise workload and utilise resources to meet all service user needs.
  • Ensure practice with junior team members complies with legal and ethical frameworks, mental health legislation and contractual obligations.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with key stakeholders including carers, inpatient services, Community Mental Health Teams, social work and third sector agencies.
Qualifications and requirements
  • NMC registered Mental Health Nurse (essential).
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to work flexibly in a 7-day service with rotating shifts.
