Overview

Senior Creative Arts Therapist - 22.5 hours per week - Permanent

We are looking for a Senior Creative Arts Therapist to join our Tier 4 GAU unit in Stoke on Trent. This role provides an exciting career opportunity supporting the assessment and recovery of young people within a highly specialist inpatient CAMHS setting. You will deliver direct assessment, formulation and intervention, including specialist individual, group and systemic work, and provide consultation, training and support for carers and staff. You will contribute to wider service development and pathways, including training, reflective practice and staff wellbeing. Applicants from all modalities of creative arts therapies are welcome (art therapy, music therapy, drama therapy, and related disciplines).

Location: The Darwin Centre, Stoke-on-Trent. Service: 14-bed Tier 4 GAU for children and young people up to 18 with acute distress or risk related to mental health disorders, eating disorders or disordered eating; neurodiverse needs and mild learning disabilities may also be supported.

Pay: Band 7, £47,810 to £54,710 per year pro rata. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Part-time.

Responsibilities
  • Hold and manage a clinical caseload under the supervision of the service lead and exercise autonomous professional responsibility for planning and prioritising own workload.
  • Provide clinically effective creative psychotherapy practice through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical work carried out by self.
  • Deliver one-to-one and group sessions for inpatients, and undertake specialist risk assessment for children and young people experiencing psychological distress.
  • Analyse and make clinical management decisions in complex issues in consultation with the inpatient MDT.
  • Identify support needs of carers/parents and refer to appropriate agencies for advice or support.
  • Work with service leads to implement local and national policies and changes to practice to meet Clinical Governance targets.
  • Ensure quality and clinically effective practice through planning, implementation, monitoring, audit and evaluation of clinical work by self and team members.
  • Maintain accurate manual and electronic records in line with NSCHT policies and HPCP guidelines.
  • Operate within HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics and follow infection control policies.
Qualifications
  • Recognised accredited postgraduate qualification in Arts Therapy (drama, music or art therapy).
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience of working with children and young people with complex needs and their families/carers; experience of assessment, treatment and evaluation in creative arts psychotherapy.
