Senior Court Officer

Location: Victoria Law Courts, Birmingham

Contract: 3 month contract with potential extension (36.5 hours per week)

Pay Rate: £25.60 PAYE per hour

About the Role

Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Court Officer to join their Youth Justice Service Court Team. The role is a frontline, in‑person position based daily at Victoria Law Courts, delivering high‑quality, child‑centred services within Birmingham Youth, Magistrates, and Crown Courts. The postholder will represent the Youth Justice Service, lead on assessments, oversee enforcement and quality assurance of court reports, and promote the best outcomes for children and young people involved in the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Youth Justice Service in court proceedings and present reports to assist judicial decision‑making.
  • Undertake and oversee youth justice and safeguarding assessments.
  • Coordinate remands to local authority accommodation and provide advice on placements.
  • Lead on enforcement, breach, and revocation proceedings.
  • Ensure quality assurance of all court documentation and reports.
  • Liaise with professionals, caregivers, and partner agencies to promote positive outcomes.
  • Support the Court Team Manager in service delivery and the development of staff.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and the welfare of children and young people.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Youth Justice or Youth Justice Court work.
  • Strong knowledge of youth justice legislation, court procedures, and safeguarding.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Confidence working in a fast‑paced court environment.
  • A commitment to multi‑agency collaboration and improving outcomes for children.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays as required.
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g., Youth Justice, Social Work, Probation). Experienced non‑qualified candidates will also be considered.
