A prestigious international law firm is looking for a qualified lawyer to join their Compliance & Risk team in London as a Senior Counsel (Commercial).

The successful candidate will join a collaborative team reporting to the Head of Corporate Risk & Governance and work closely with the General Counsel, the Conflicts Team, the Head of Procurement, and other key stakeholders across the firm.

The ideal candidate for the Senior Counsel (Commercial) role would have at least five years’ experience, ideally with a commercial or corporate law background

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and maintain the firm’s standard client engagement documentation, including terms of business.
  • Provide guidance on the terms of engagement for third-party professionals such as expert witnesses, barristers, and local counsel.
  • Support the business development process by assessing legal and risk aspects of client tenders, proposals, and panel applications.
  • Collaborate with the procurement function to negotiate and finalise supplier contracts, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation.
  • Evaluate and advise on client-specific terms and outside counsel guidelines to ensure alignment with firm policy and regulatory obligations.
  • Draft and manage a variety of internal legal agreements, including intercompany contracts, LLP member documents, and corporate resolutions.
  • Oversee the preparation of consultancy agreements and related commercial arrangements.
  • Support the Conflicts Team in resolving sensitive or complex conflict issues.

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience ideally gained at a law firm or in-house legal team.
  • Strong background in commercial or corporate law.
  • Strong understanding of the SRA Code of Conduct and a willingness to develop expertise in other regulatory regimes
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, particularly for commercial contracts and data protection terms.
  • Experience in dealing with conflicts of interest and resolutions is desirable but not essential.
