Job summary

Pick Everard is seeking a Senior Cost Manager to lead cost management across diverse sectors from its Manchester base. The role focuses on delivering accurate cost estimates, contract documentation and robust cost controls while guiding a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal candidates will hold Chartered Surveyor status with post-chartership experience, be MRICS, and have a proven consultancy background in cost planning, feasibility studies and post-contract cost management.

Qualifications

• Chartered Surveyor status with post-chartership experience.
• Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
• Proven consultancy Quantity Surveying track record including cost management, feasibility, cost planning and post-contract cost control.
• Strong knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Experience building relationships with clients as a trusted advisor.
• Excellent planning, organisational and programme management skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Clear report writing and presentation skills.
• Experience supporting business development and bid submissions.

Responsibilities

• Lead large or complex projects with overall delivery and cost control.
• Prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities, contract docs and project reports.
• Audit and cost-check construction and facilities management contracts.
• Maintain client relationships and act as primary contact.
• Lead bid submissions and assist business development.
• Plan resources, supervise teams and monitor internal costs.
• Provide guidance to junior team members and chair Design Team meetings.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety policies and practices.

We are looking to appoint a dedicated, forward-thinking Senior Cost Manager to lead and shape our offering in Manchester. Joining a supportive network, you can expect to receive training, guidance and genuine scope for career development.

You will work across an array of sectors to include defence, commercial, residential, education and healthcare. Working closely with the team, you will prepare cost estimates, contract documents and reports.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Leading large and/or complex projects, with overall responsibility for project delivery and cost control.
• Preparing and ensuring the accuracy of cost estimates, bills of quantities, contract documentation and project reports.
• Undertaking audits, cost checks and reviews of construction and facilities management contracts.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, acting as a key point of contact.
• Leading bid submissions and supporting business development activities.
• Planning and managing project resources, supervising teams and monitoring internal project costs.
• Providing day-to-day guidance, support and management to less experienced team members.
• Chairing Design Team meetings and providing expert advice on cost management and control.
• Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety policies, procedures and best practices.

About You

Our ideal Senior Cost Manager will have:

• Chartered Surveyor status with relevant post-chartership experience.
• Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
• A proven track record within a consultancy Quantity Surveying role, including experience in cost management of building projects, feasibility and option studies, detailed cost planning, and post-contract cost management.
• A thorough understanding of the principal standard forms of building contracts, including JCT and NEC.
• Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor.
• Strong planning, organisational and programme management skills, with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients and project teams.
• Strong report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
• Experience of supporting and contributing to business development activities, including identifying opportunities and assisting with bid submissions.
