Job summary

Mace is seeking a Senior Cost Consultant to deliver multiple fast-paced property investments programmes for major FMCG retail clients. You will join a UK-wide team of Project Cost and Commercial Managers handling diverse investment types including store fit-outs, extensions, refurbishments and asset renewals.

The role involves cost planning, budgeting, procurement, and client liaison across projects, with travel within the UK and occasional Europe.

Qualifications

• Experience in a cost consultancy with retail clients.
• Cost planning, budgeting and estimating experience.
• Knowledge of typical industry contracts forms and procurement routes.
• Highly numerate, accurate and detail-focused.
• Strong understanding of industry best practice.
• Ability to build excellent relationships with clients, design teams and stakeholders.
• Occasional European travel if required.
• Degree in quantity surveying/cost management or equivalent.
• MRICS/RICS membership or working towards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies and benchmarking.
• Apply value management techniques at the outset of a project.
• Manage, estimate and cost plan activities including final cost plan.
• Manage the procurement process from pre-qualification to contract preparation.
• Ensure post-contract cost variances and change control are managed.
• Ensure cost checking and valuation work is managed.
• Produce monthly post-contract cost reports and present to the client.
• Negotiate and agree final accounts.
• Be a key interface with client and other consultants at all stages.
• Support consultancy team in marketing and business development.
