Job summary

Sustainable Infrastructure in North East England is seeking a Senior Cost Consultant to join our Cost & Commercial Management team for a major hyperscale data centre programme. The role focuses on post-contract commercial management across MEP and complex packages, ensuring value through procurement to final account.

You will manage GMP development, cost reporting, forecasts and final accounts, while collaborating with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Proven cost and commercial management experience across complex construction or infrastructure projects.
• Strong post-contract commercial management experience.
• Experience managing change control and variations.
• Strong knowledge of valuations and payment processes.
• Experience with cost forecasting, reporting and financial control.
• Proven experience managing and agreeing final accounts.
• Commercial ownership of major construction or engineering work packages.

Responsibilities

• Support the Commercial Director across major capital packages from procurement through to final account.
• Support and, where appropriate, lead GMP development, negotiation and conversion.
• Provide commercial management across major packages including MEP, enabling works, civils, structures, steel, architectural and CSA.
• Manage and support final account negotiations and agreement.
• Undertake FIDIC-based contract administration.
• Prepare and review valuations and payment recommendations.
• Manage change control, variations and commercial adjustments.
• Prepare cost reports, forecasts and CVRs.
• Support tender analysis and commercial recommendations.
• Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and contingency.
• Work collaboratively with design, PMO, construction, procurement and commissioning teams.
• Develop strong relationships with contractors, consultants, clients and internal stakeholders.
• Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team.

About the Role

Location: North East England

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Consultant to join our Cost & Commercial Management team, supporting the commercial delivery of a major hyperscale data centre programme.

The role focuses on post-contract commercial management across major capital work packages, with particular emphasis on MEP and complex construction packages.

You will play a key role in managing commercial performance from procurement through to final account, working closely with the Commercial Director, contractors, consultants, project teams and wider stakeholders.

The role will involve GMP development, contract administration, change control, valuations, forecasting, cost reporting and final accounts.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Commercial Director across major capital packages from procurement through to final account.

• Proven cost and commercial management experience across complex construction or infrastructure projects.
• Strong post-contract commercial management experience.
• Experience managing change control and variations.
• Strong knowledge of valuations and payment processes.
• Experience with cost forecasting, reporting and financial control.
• Proven experience managing and agreeing final accounts.
• Commercial ownership of major construction or engineering work packages.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.

Desirable Experience

Experience within one or more of the following sectors would be advantageous:

• Industrial
• Mission-Critical Infrastructure
• Pharmaceutical
• Manufacturing
• Major Infrastructure
• MEP / Building Services

Additional experience with:

• GMP
• FIDIC
• Site-based major projects
• Major MEP or specialist packages

would be highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent professional experience in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Professional membership or chartered status, or actively working towards chartership.
• Valid CSCS card, or ability to obtain one.
