We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Core Fibre Build Design Engineer to join our Core Fibre Design team.

We are looking for a dynamic individual whom will thrive and become a recognised Subject Matter Expert within Fibre Optic Network Design, Engineering and Core Network Delivery communities. You will be required to define and maintain physical design standards by upholding engineering architectural guidance and strategy, as well as ensuring that the design content meets business, internal and external customer needs whilst ensuring that definitive core network infrastructure records remain secure, accurate and up to date.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will create and develop detailed designs for internal and external customers, whilst influencing and evolving fibre design principles and standards, producing optic fibre network designs that seamlessly combine physical infrastructure considerations to meet the capacity, technology and product requirements for any size network and complexity. You will provide the technical knowledge, ensuring that the architecture and engineering plan for product development align with the customer and business requirements and can be delivered in a cost-effective manner.

Key responsibilities

• As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be tasked with the design and development of large and/or complex optic fibre network solutions ensuring the quality, time and cost objectives are consistently met and providing the design and records information to support the core network infrastructure build plan and operational requirements.
• In addition to the complex fibre network design, you will apply the Virgin Media O2 network architectures & engineering standards, security requirements and ensure the fibre network record systems are maintained.

The must haves

• Knowledge of OTN technologies
• Significant experience working in a Fibre Network Design/Support role (e.g. VM O2, BT, City Fibre and other network providers)
• Knowledge of optical fibre testing techniques and fibre optic characteristics (OTDR, ILM, PMD & CD)
• Technical Consultancy skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts at all levels of the Virgin Media O2 organisation and to external customers and professional/industry bodies.
• Ability to conceptualise and design complex fibre network infrastructure to provide optical fibre capacity and customer solutions.
  
  
  

The other stuff we are looking for

• Current NRSWA Unit 2, Streetworks Signing, Lighting & Guarding qualification
• Knowledge of GComms or similar GIS tools
• PC literate and knowledge of the MS Office suite (including MS Team, MS Visio)
