The Post

We seek a keen and enthusiastic Controls & Electrical Design Engineer to work effectively within our engineering team. The role involves using AutoCAD Electrical to design panels and electrical schematics for systems ranging from small retro-fit camera setups to large industrial automation machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full lifecycle PLC and controls programming of industrial automation systems.
  • Design and specify control systems, safety, and electrical components.
  • Create technical specifications, process flow diagrams, and control system architecture.
  • Integrate and commission new systems at customer sites within the UK and internationally.
  • Create electrical schematics and layouts adhering to EU standards.
  • Collaborate with Design and Applications Engineers to deliver projects on time.
  • Coordinate with suppliers as part of project control.
  • Assist with electrical fitting, wiring, and assembly of machine builds.
  • Conduct electrical testing on new machine builds.
  • Support electrical troubleshooting during manufacturing.
  • Maintain and develop existing control systems at customer sites.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

  • Minimum 3+ years industry experience in PLC/HMI programming.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and control gear.
  • Machinery safety training/experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical control gear, industrial automation, and communication protocols (Profinet/Profibus, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, serial, OPC, IO-link).
  • At least 3+ years using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software.
  • Experience designing electrical panel layouts.
  • Logical problem-solving skills.
  • Organized, deadline-oriented, detail-focused.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (2.1 or above).
  • Knowledge of robotics and machine vision.
  • Full UK driving license.
