Motor Control Software Engineer (senior / principal)

Warwickshire, UK

£65-75k + bonus + benefits (negotiable)

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced software engineer to develop motor control software for a broad variety of customers across multiple e-mobility / electric vehicle sectors.

Based in Leamington Spa.

Required:

• ESSENTIAL: Proven experience of developing software for traction motors used directly for e-mobility applications (land, sea or air - e.g., automotive electric vehicle EDU systems, drone propulsion, marine electric powertrains, etc.)
• Experience of developing embedded software OR model-based software
• Experience of capturing requirements and developing software architecture
• Good technical leadership / mentoring and communication skills

In this role, you will take customer projects from concept to prototype, developing systems from scratch, bringing solutions up through hardware integration and lab testing to form validated prototypes ready for customer handover.

This role requires experience in embedded C software development OR model-based software development using Matlab / Simulink.

Candidates should have a systems understanding and preferably experience within various e-mobility domains (e.g., automotive, aerospace, off-highway, marine).

Skills / experience required:

• A relevant degree or master's (e.g., electronics, computer science, automotive engineering)
• 8-10 years post-academic experience, including motor control software development for e-mobility systems
• Evidence of model-based software development using Matlab / Simulink OR embedded C programming
• ESSENTIAL: Proven experience developing software for traction motors for e-mobility applications (land, sea, or air)
• Practical engineering aptitude (hardware integration, electromechanical systems)
• Ability to lead projects, mentor juniors, work with customers
• Experience with autocode tools (e.g., Embedded Coder) is a plus
• Innovative problem-solving skills

Our client seeks a senior or principal motor control software engineer to develop proof of concepts into prototypes and production-ready designs.

Domain knowledge of motor control software for vehicle propulsion (land, sea, or air) is essential.

This principal engineer role is onsite 3 days/week, located near Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, and Lutterworth.
