Motor Control Software Engineer (Senior / Principal)

Warwickshire, UK

£65-75k + bonus + benefits (negotiable)

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced software engineer to develop motor control software for a broad variety of customers across multiple e-mobility / electric vehicle sectors.

Based in Leamington Spa.

Required:

• ESSENTIAL: Proven experience in developing software for traction motors used directly for e-mobility applications (land, sea, or air - e.g., automotive electric vehicle EDU systems, drone propulsion, marine electric powertrains, etc.)
• Experience in developing embedded software OR model-based software
• Experience in capturing requirements and developing software architecture
• Good technical leadership, mentoring, and communication skills

This role involves taking customer projects from concept to prototype, developing systems from scratch, hardware integration, lab testing, and delivering validated prototypes for customer handover.

The role requires experience in embedded C software development OR model-based software development using Matlab / Simulink.

Candidates should have a systems understanding and ideally experience in various e-mobility domains (e.g., automotive, aerospace, off-highway, marine).

Skills / experience required:

• A relevant degree or master's (e.g., electronics, computer science, automotive engineering)
• 8-10 years of post-academic experience, including significant motor control software development for e-mobility systems
• Experience with model-based software development using Matlab / Simulink OR embedded C programming
• ESSENTIAL: Proven experience developing software for traction motors used in e-mobility applications
• Practical engineering aptitude (software on hardware platforms, electromechanical systems)
• Ability to lead projects, mentor juniors, and collaborate with customers
• Experience with autocode tools (e.g., Embedded Coder) is a plus
• Innovation and creative problem-solving skills

The client seeks a senior or principal motor control software engineer to advance proof of concepts to prototypes and production-ready designs.

Domain knowledge in motor control software for vehicle propulsion (land, sea, or air) is essential.

This role is onsite (3 days/week) and accessible from Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, and Lutterworth.
