Job description

The GCIO Chief Control Office (CCO) team plays an important role in enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite by ensuring efficient and effective risk and control management. We do this by providing operational risk and control expertise, specialist technical knowledge and a deep understanding of the businesses and functions we serve.

Key activities include implementation and oversight of the Group’s Risk Management Framework, ongoing and targeted controls assessments, implementing and maintaining robust risk governance, and championing a proactive risk culture. GCIO CCO works closely with partners across all lines of defence and is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with our regulators and external partners.

In this role, you will join a growing team to oversee the risk and control portfolio related to Cyber Operations and Intelligence (CO&I), which includes Threat Intelligence, the Security Operations Centre, and Cyber and Data Incident Management.

You will be a leader within the GCIO CCO function supporting Cyber Operations and Intelligence (CO&I), taking accountability for GCIO Risk Management to help HSBC achieve strategic outcomes while remaining resilient and secure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a trusted advisor for senior management on operational risk management, including risk assessments, control environment, and issues management.
  • Supporting the delivery of the GCIO risk & controls agenda through stakeholder engagement across all three Lines of Defence, control owners, and risk leads.
  • Promoting accountable risk and control decision-making based on quality data and analysis, challenging poor or excessive controls.
  • Providing specialist risk and control insights, and leading efforts to improve the control environment and risk monitoring.
  • Advising on process and control design to ensure practicality and effectiveness.
  • Identifying trends to anticipate future risk and control environment developments.
  • Influencing the development and implementation of future risk management and regulatory frameworks.
  • Updating senior management on relevant policy or project changes impacting operational risk.
