Senior Control and Instrumentation Engineer - Outside IR35

Senior Control and Instrumentation Engineer - Outside IR35 Scope of Work:

The Senior C&I engineer will be responsible for the execution of project work, including FEED deliverables in accordance with the Discipline Design Instructions, including Company and / or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control, within the man - hour, cost budgets and the project schedule targets.

Responsible for producing the following deliverables:

  • Carry out FEED deliverables
  • Design and develop control systems for industrial processes, including selecting instrumentation and control devices.
  • Develop, configure, and program programmable logic controllers (PLCs) or distributed control systems (DCS) for automated control systems.
  • Select appropriate sensors, transmitters, actuators, and other instruments to monitor and control the process.
  • Integrate C&I systems with other systems (e.g., SCADA, HMI) to ensure data flow and coordination between different systems.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders, such as clients, vendors, and contractors, to ensure clear expectations and timelines.
  • Develop schedules for the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning phases of projects.
  • Identify potential project risks, propose mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and codes.
  • Create and maintain detailed design documents, including control logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) updates.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and ensure timely documentation of any design or scope changes.
  • Ensure all designs and implementations comply with local, national, and international standards (e.g., IEC, ISA, NEC).
  • Implement and monitor safety standards and practices related to C&I work to minimize risks and ensure worker safety.
  • Ensure environmental regulations and sustainability goals are considered in system design and operation.
  • Suggest process improvements through better control strategies or system configurations.
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and civil engineers to ensure that C&I systems integrate well with other aspects of the project.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and ensure that components are delivered as specified, on time, and within budget.

Key Requirements

  • Typically Master's Degree in Instrument or Electrical Engineering.
  • Chartered Status and significant related experience working for Engineering / Client organisations in the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Excellent coordination, monitoring and supervisory skills.
  • Exposure to Consultancy, FEED / Detailed Design and EPC projects.
  • Knowledge of international equipment specifications and costs.
  • In depth knowledge of standard international specifications and codes.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Quality procedures.
