Job description

Recruiting for a Senior Contracts Manager to work for the UK's leader in Environmental Solutions (Waste, Energy & Recycling). The Senior Contracts Manager will be responsible for managing contracts within the industrial engineering department, focusing on operations & maintenance of major energy facilities such as EFw or high-temperature incinerators (EP HTI) used for hazardous waste disposal.

The role involves managing contracts within the Engineering portfolio, utilizing resources effectively to meet service delivery, budget targets, and contractual obligations in compliance with legislation. The candidate will engage regularly with customers and site teams, conduct site visits, build rapport with clients, and develop additional Veolia services across the contract portfolio. Assisting the General Manager in managing and executing Veolia's corporate objectives and continuous improvement initiatives is also key.

Ideal candidates will have experience as a Contracts Manager or higher, working within the waste or energy industry, maintaining heavy industrial operations. This position offers a great opportunity for a contract role that could transition to permanent employment. The company is a global waste, energy & recycling corporation with a turnover exceeding GBP 3 billion.

Duties & Responsibilities
Safety, Health, and Environment
  • Ensure legal compliance and management of HS&E standards by Contract Managers, Site Managers, and Supervisors.
  • Maintain focus on Zero Harm principles.
  • Promote and encourage best HS&E practices across the area.
  • Deliver Veolia's minimum standards across the portfolio.
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of waste management, both non-hazardous and hazardous.
  • Understanding of treatment technologies for recycling streams.
  • Project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of circular economy principles and waste hierarchy application.
Contract Delivery
  • Strong customer management skills to maintain and develop client relationships.
  • Conduct regular contract health reviews and implement improvement actions.
  • Work to expand contract scope and sell additional services.
Quality Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Use support functions to develop and implement improvement plans.
  • Identify problems and utilize available resources for solutions.
  • Standardize processes across contracts to build resilience.
Financial & Commercial Management
  • Understand P&Ls and track performance with team members.
  • Maintain forecasts and develop mitigation plans as needed.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts, and present to senior management.
  • Ensure contracts deliver full commercial value.
People Management
  • Support succession planning, mentoring, and talent development.
  • Develop training plans and motivate teams to high standards.
Candidate Requirements

Experience delivering O&M services within the energy sector as a Contract Manager or above.

H&S qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safety or NEBOSH.

Technical background in energy, with an HNC or equivalent in Engineering or tertiary qualification.

Strong commercial and contractual experience.

Renewable energy experience is beneficial.

Electrical experience is beneficial.

Experience with CEF contracts is advantageous.
